It's a bit quiet in here, but perhaps not for long :)
Email format is certainly a topic that seems to bring out strong opinions in people. However, this time, my question is not about plain text vs html.
I currently send out a newsletter (via constant contact), and greater than 95% (?) of my subscribers have opted to receive html. I can't blame them...its too difficult to read plain text anymore (some of it is like reading run-on sentences), and most of my subscribers appreciate a slight larger font (we are OlderWiserWomen after all :)).
I am switching to using the broadcast feature (in plain text) of my shopping cart and I will then link my subscribers to either an html page OR a pdf document on my website. (I am also considering this same format for some e-courses I'm developing).
I have many reasons for this. It gets them to my website, they can read something that is visually pleasant and easy to read (font size), and for those on dial up they don't have to worry about size of the download, etc. For those that like to print and/or read offline, they will be able to do that as well.
(I'd also like to figure out how to add rss to these pages).
My main question boils down to this: is either one, html or pdf preferable and why? I've seen both used, but don’t know if there are any behind the scenes advantages of one of the other.
